Is getting a certification "required" in order to perform ergonomic evaluations? In today’s episode, we're talking about the world of private label certification versus board certification. This is very important to know because getting ‘trained’ and being ‘certified’ is different—at least if we're talking about the professional side of things. I’ll get into exactly what it means to be certified, how to navigate it, and look at a few options for you to get started.

Do you really need certifications to do ergonomics?

As an ergonomics educator, this is one of the most often asked questions I received. For the record, becoming certified is something that, I think, if you’re in the ergonomics field, you should diligently pursue because it protects consumers, protects the field, enhances your credibility as a service provider, provides personal satisfaction, improves your earning capacity, and improves promotion and job opportunities.

Companies offering ergonomic certifications teach you how to conduct an ergonomics assessment according to their personal criteria. So the question is, what’s the best step if you want to become fully certified? Let’s clear up the confusion with all the ergonomics certifications and courses that are now being offered in the market today and find out what’s the best pathway forward if you want to become "fully certified".
